Daniel Rader loves Death Wish so much he has it tattooed on his shoulder

By Shannon Sweeney — / Death Wish Coffee Blog

On Daniel Rader's left shoulder, there's a familiar looking skull and crossbones logo. The inspiration for that tattoo came from his first purchase from Death Wish Coffee in 2014.

Without our dedicated, caffeinated and growing community, Death Wish Coffee wouldn't be where it is today. That's why we want to introduce you to some of our community members and tell you about how they learned about Death Wish, how they take their coffee, and what they like to do in their free time.

How’d you first hear about Death Wish?

In late 2014 I was working at Papa John's and it was just me and 1 other manager. We were both working 60 hours a week and were drinking huge amounts of energy drinks. I went to Amazon and searched for high caffeine drinks. That’s when I found Death Wish. I drank coffee before but only on occasion. I saw there was a promo running on the Death Wish website where I could get a free mug (red Christmas mug) when I signed up for a subscription. I decided to give it a shot. Once I brewed the coffee my life was changed. I didn’t get a buzz from the coffee, but the flavor was amazing. From that moment on I was hooked.

In 2015, I ordered a hoodie and there was an issue with the order and with the excellent customer service I received I knew I was a customer for life. It was also in December of 2015 that I decided to get the Death Wish Coffee logo tattooed on my left shoulder.

How do you take your coffee?

My go to method is my Ninja Coffee machine. I own a Chemex, French press, moka pot, Nespresso, Keurig, and more, but my ninja is easy and gives me the same coffee every time I make some. It's different than your regular drip machine as it allows the grounds to bloom and has precise temperature both of which are like using a Chemex.

I drink the coffee black with just a little bit of sugar. The only time I use creamer is in the fall when pumpkin flavors come out, during that time of the year I can’t even! Also, the Cauldron Pumpkin blend is my favorite coffee Death Wish Makes.

What’s your favorite part about the DWCC community?

There are 4,000 people and they are from all over the world. Most of the people on the page I would have never known if it wasn’t for Death Wish. I have met a few people in person on the page and plan to meet up with a few more.

I love how the group comes together and does amazing things when it comes to raising money for causes like the New York Special Olympics or Riki’s Ride (Gail and CJ you guys ROCK!)

What do you like to do in your free time?

I watch a lot of movies and occasionally play video games, and Fallout is my favorite. I try to spend the weekend when I have it off going to places with my family. I love going to thrift stores and flea markets and I am always looking for Deneen mugs now. Although I haven’t gone in a long time I love camping and fishing as well.

What’s something you’d like to see from us?

My dream item has always been a hockey jersey. I see that that is coming soon, and I am beyond happy. I would still like to see a cold brew pack released. Something where I can just toss a pack in a container with water and let it brew, no need to measure just put it in and done.
