Help astronomers name a new planet

Ever wanted to name a planet? Here's your chance. Researchers at the Palomar Observatory in San Diego, California, discovered a brand new  planet in the furthest reaches of our solar system nearly 12 years ago. It's an ice-covered planet and astronomers feel that it's time to finally give it a name.

On last week's episode of Fueled by Death Cast, Jeff details how exactly you can play your part in naming this planet in the Kuiper Belt. Right now, the planet has a super boring name — 2007OR10. Astronomers are looking to spice it up a little, and they need your help.

Unfortunately, you don't get to submit an idea of your own, so there goes our idea of naming it something coffee-related. But you do get to pick from three options — and I think you'll see what our favorite is pretty quickly.

1. Gonggong

This option comes from the Chinese water god Gonggong, who has "red hair and a serpent-like tail. He is known for creating chaos, causing flooding, and tilting the Earth."

2. Holle

Holle is a European winter goddess of fertility, rebirth, and women. She makes snow by shaking out her bed, which is pretty cool.

"She is a patroness of household crafts especially spinning. She is linked to the Yuletide (winter solstice) season associated with mistletoe and holly, evergreen plants bearing red berries."

3. Vili

The Norse god Vili is the brother of Odin and Vé. Together, the three of them defeated frost giant Ymir and used Ymir's body to create the universe.

"Ymir's flesh and bones were forged into the Earth, with Ymir's blood becoming the rivers and oceans."

Norse mythology is the inspiration for our Valhalla Java Odinforce Blend, created in collaboration with world-renowned guitarist Zakk Wylde. When you drink this blend, you prove you're worthy of the Valkyries.

Needless to say, I think our team is going to vote for number 3. But you can vote for your favorite, too! Head to this link to cast your vote. The winner will be announced on May 10!
