Meet Death Wish: Jeff Ayers, Broadcasting and Fueled By Death Cast Host

By Death Wish Coffee — / Death Wish Coffee Blog

Death Wish Coffee Company is made up of a small but growing team. We want to take you inside our headquarters and introduce you to some of the team members that make it all come together.

As a company, we've always strived to bring you more than just caffeination and great coffee (though, that's pretty important for us). The more comes from all different places, not least of which is our Fueled by Death Cast. Enter Jeff Ayers. Jeff joined the team officially just three months ago to make sure that the podcast is something we can bring into your homes, cars, and wherever you want us to be. He's an expert on all things comics, video games and random pop culture news.

How long have you been working with Death Wish and what do you do here?

I'm the new guy! I have worked full time with Death Wish Coffee only since March of this year. Yet, I have been a kind of "geek consultant" for a little over a year, helping the company to break into the comic convention circuit, and even helped them to produce a comic book, Odinforce #1. I handle the brand new broadcasting division of Death Wish Coffee Company, where I write, record, edit, and produce our weekly podcast, Fueled By Death Cast, which I co-host with Dustin.  Also, I am helping to produce more video content, including live video for the company, and also break us into the live gaming community with Twitch broadcasts.

What have you learned about the coffee industry that surprised you?

The science! Before I started working here, I was very much a "lazy coffee drinker." I would just put any old coffee grounds into my drip machine, and hit the brew button. I had no idea how much of a process creating, roasting and brewing coffee can actually be. Learning about the genome sequences in different types of beans, the various roasting processes, and the multitude of brewing techniques has opened my eyes to a whole new world of coffee related possibilities. It truly is one of the most interesting drinks on the planet!

What does a typical day look like for you? How much coffee do you drink?

My work day is either spent researching and writing for the weekly podcast or recording various audio or video content for the company. On any given day I might be reading about new discoveries from space in the morning, and then talking to a famous musician about what fuels them in the afternoon. One thing I've learned is that there is no such thing as a "typical day" at Death Wish Coffee.

My desk is right near all of our different coffee makers, so sometimes I find myself drinking three or four cups of coffee a day, including a Nitro Cold Brew!

What do you do for fun?

Outside of work, I love to play video games and watch superhero movies with my wife Tricia. I am lucky to have the opportunity to play electric violin and perform in a rock band with my friends. If I'm not at the office you can usually find me at my local comic shop The Comic Depot.

What’s something that goes on at HQ that people would be surprised to learn?

This company is very special. There is no fear in kicking around new ideas or proposing new avenues for us to explore. I personally equate Death Wish Coffee Company to a living, breathing organism - one that is constantly growing and learning to become better than it is. The amount of creativity and determination from such a small, dedicated crew I think is unparalleled by other companies in our field, and that is why we continue to foster success.

Meet the rest of the Death Wish team.
