Vikings are known for forging their own paths and this is exactly what is transpiring with the series that bears the same name.

VT reports that Netflix is making “Valhalla,” the sequel to “Vikings.” The spinoff is taking place a century after the original series comes to an end in its sixth season. The show kept fans glued to the History channel every week since 2013 for a good dose of brutality and savagery.

Obviously, we're excited for multiple reasons. Our Super Bowl 50 commercial consisted of Vikings sailing across the sea, and our Valhalla Java coffee blend is said to be enjoyed by Odin (and guitarist Zakk Wylde) himself.

Jeb Stuart is writing the script for the new series, with creator Michael Hirst continuing his role as Executive Producer.

Hirst is thrilled for the continuation, as he warmly welcomes the new series like a true man of the North. Heil og sæl!

"I am beyond excited that we are announcing the continuation of our Vikings saga," Hirst said in a statement. "I know that the millions of our fans across the globe will be thrilled by the belief being shown in our show by MGM and Netflix. Jeb Stuart, a truly wonderful writer, will bring new storylines and a powerful visceral vision to stories about some of the most famous Vikings known to history."

There isn’t a release date yet for Valhalla, there are reportedly 24 episodes planned. One episode for each god in the Norse pantheon – coincidence or not, we are ready to pillage into the new series and sequel announcement. We are grateful to the gods that Hirst does indeed have the heart to keep the series alive.
